A mostly shaded garden full of color
Today we ’re off to Elizabethtown , Kentucky , to visit with Bob Hines . We ’ve jaw this garden before , so check out earlier posts ( bulge out withRevisiting Bob and Mary Ann ’s Garden in Kentucky ) .
The movie today are from our 2020 garden , with ideas and plans for 2021 always in mind . We have an urban backyard garden that was startle in a yard with only sens in 2009 . We have a challenge , since every area of the garden is on a slope with approach and drainage as a major part of our plans . Most of the garden is in moderate spook , so creating grain and color from saltation to fall is also a challenge . We live in Zone 6a and have usedannualsto enhance the canonic plants of the garden .
Rich texture and color from tincture - loving perennials gets amped up by the habit of tender caladium ( Caladiumhybrid , attender bulb or an one-year ) with a red - and - white patterned leaf .

A beautiful and inviting entrance into the garden , with blooming hydrangea ( Hydrangeapaniculata , Zones 3–8 ) to the left .
The genusHostais home to so many beautiful species , cross , and selections that you could make a whole planting just using their different shapes , sizes , and colors .
Another gateway in the garden , with blooming majestic coneflowers ( Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–8 ) showing off , to the pleasure of humans andpollinatorsalike .

Stepping stones lead you through the dim plantings .
Another gateway , flanked by tallcontainersof annuals overflowing with blooms .
Redhot poker game ( Kniphofia , Zones 5–9 ) give dramatic spike of live - colored blooms .

A clunk of cannas ( Cannahybrids , Zones 7–10 or as yearbook or legal tender light bulb ) give a tropical feel with their tolerant leaves and coloured flowers .
