uphold the piece of work to build up my multiplication bench , I paid a visit to Oxford Wood Recycling which is a social enterprisingness I ’ve used before when I ’ve needed inexpensive timber . It ’s a bit of a trek , 20 curious knot , but well deserving it . From their Alladin ’s Cave of wood I corrupt some long lengths of 4×1 plank which they cut to required size for me on site ( £ 14 ) . These will form the horizontal section of the frame , about 233 atomic number 96 or 7’6″ tenacious . I ideally would have preferred sometime scaffold plug-in or 6×1 plank but the former were too pricy and they did nt have enough tenacious pieces of the latter . Never listen , I will duplicate up on 4x1s and so have 8 in of depth to encounter with in the frame . I already had pallet rails ( £ 0 ) which are very solid , which I reduce down to 90 atomic number 96 in length to form the legs for the bench . If I did n’t have these I ’d have either foraged for more pallets or grease one’s palms 3x2s from the wood castle .
One of the unforseen downside of maximise the sizing of the bench vs the greenhouse is that there is n’t much wiggle way to retrace in there so I first build the side in the shed . The 4×1 plank were screwed square to the stage with 2 in piece of ass , wealthy with the height , two planks on each side .
I added an surplus wooden leg on each side for the rice beer of validity and so I can brace the base a bit more . It will finally be holding a with child warhead of guts , water and compost so it needs to be strong . I do n’t want it all falling through the middle and wreaking extension havoc .
It would have looked neater to put the midway leg on the inside of the box shape but I wanted to have an uninterrupted run inside the shape to make it wanton to spread out the line drive when the time comes .
I should ’ve buy another couple of 4×1 planks for the bottom shelf but miscount so will buy a couple in B&Q when I get the other bit I necessitate . I move the shorter side piece into the nursery and after a bit of staging shuffling , screwed in the side pieces ( 93 atomic number 96 or 3′ ) which nail the canonical physique for the work bench .
