I thought I’d heard of everything a gardener could do with home-grown jalapenos until I saw them dipped in chocolate.
After a long dawning touring the gorgeous showing at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show last hebdomad , I make out the Gourmet Goodies store and made a beeline for it . I needed a chocolate pick - me - up , and I needed it tight .
As I was trying to determine which chocolately sweet would end up in my blistering small hands , I get word something I ’d never check before : chocolate deal chilli pepper peppers . I ’ve made my share ofcandied jalapenos , but I ’ve never tried anything like this .
These were n’t just any peppers . These were oversized jalapenos dipped in dingy Belgian chocolate with swirls of milk drinking chocolate on top . Talk about a long suit detail !

When I asked about them , the retailer assure me these are one of the most popular candies they trade . “ We sell out of them every meter , ” she said .
The umber jalapenos sold for $ 3 each and I had to have one . The combination of sweet drinking chocolate and live black pepper work surprisingly well flavorwise . It was a tasty compounding , but the smell did n’t meld quite as well as Mexican hot chocolate and red chile Madagascar pepper do in a classic mol sauce .
The first pungency was a piffling shameful , in a good mode , because I was n’t machinate for a pepper with that much compaction and so much bite . The chocolate was sweet and creamy .

The only downside to this confectionary dainty was the drinking chocolate did n’t stick to the pepper as well as I had hoped . After the first few bites , I keep trying to concoct a method for making the chocolate adhere to the pepper better . Perhaps a smaller pepper ? Precook the pepper slightly ? I ’m not trusted what will solve , but I ’m going to give it a effort this summer as presently as the peppers initiate producing .
Even though the cocoa did n’t cohere to the pepper , these hot confect had enough presentation value to make up for it .
What ideas do you have to improve on this special nurseryman ’s dainty ? Please add your proposition here .
