As much as I desire to jump out of bed and rapid climb to the show Wednesday morning , I had an appointment with Becky Rice , Executive Director of the Ruth Bancroft Garden across the bay and over the hills in Walnut Creek . Back across the bay , I made a beeline for the San Mateo Event Center , flashed my postpaid ticket and zoomed into the first of two gigantic display mansion house . I confab garden shows for conception ideas and almost never grease one’s palms a affair . But folks like me were totally outnumber by smartly dressed Lady ( the occasional husband dutifully in tow ) wheeling Charles’s Wain and balancing bags in search of plants , gizmos and contraption . ( The char with the fork ski tow was courteously asked to leave it in the parking quite a little . ) I reduce my motivation for aesthetic inspiration and started my sojourn by perusing ware kiosk .

I ’ve known about Monrovia Nursery since I set out in the glasshouse biz in the mid-70s and I ’ve enjoy watching them develop . They supply gardener with beautiful , well - grown plant life for all want . Their booth get my eye , display   this tantalizing sketch of oranges , papayas , and a merry succulent and flax combination .

It ’s swell to see all the vendors thinking ‘ greenish ’ but there were a few standout products that align perfectly with my own philosophies of living softly on the planet .
