No , I ’m not go to show you how to go to the market store . Hopefully you already know how to go to   the grocery store .

Today i ’m buy the farm to show you how to take what you get at the grocery computer memory – that is sweet   potato – and sprout them and use the leave sprouts to plant your garden with odorous potatoes .

Walmart perfumed potatoes !

We ’ll sprout them in some of these little window boxwood thing that I obtain . Somebody got rid of them . And here ’s some potting soil .

This is the honorable way to start sweet potato pillow slip of your own and it ’s really gentle . Now you ’ve belike seen people starting gratifying potatoes with toothpick in the side mystify in a jar of H2O . I did that when I was a kid many times actually , and i even start my own honeyed potato bed that way with slips . But I do n’t do that any longer for one reason : they tend to rot sometimes . And another cause is that when they decompose they smell really really speculative , so basically those are two reasons nested together .

I ’ve had less worry with them rotting and I ’ve had dependable results by just take the white potato and invest them down into some potting soil and covering them over . This is a trivial more innate , kind of like they would be raise in the earth .

This land is more or less moist already so I do n’t really need to water it . It ’s actually fairly wet so all i get to do is stick these guysin here . I probably could have stuck all six just in one of these . It does n’t matter if they ’re really bury all the way but i ’m gon na be neurotic about it and inter them all the way .

Now all I got ta do is go stick these guy rope in the greenhouse and await a few hebdomad because they sprout middling promptly when it ’s warm . They necessitate that warmth ! If it ’s coolheaded they do n’t really want to grow . This is a tropic harvest and it ’s about a calendar month until it ’s really time for me to plant these in my climate , so if I can get them start now and get a bunch of little vines going I ’ll have them ready to constitute out my garden the right way at the right time .

You do n’t actually have to have a glasshouse to do this . you may start sugared Irish potato on a sunny window or back porch or whatever .   I have some that I start that way and I ’m gon na show them to you now and demonstrate how it work and what you do next because we have to wait on these and i ’m not gon na look three weeks before commit this TV out .

This right here is a mountain with some sugared potato ends . My wife was cook mellifluous potato and I take the final stage off because they were start to sprout and i planted them in this pot and I stuck them on my windowsill a couple of months ago .

As you could see they ’ve grown like crazy , though they are not the happiest look thing in the world because they were within of a shady inside and then they got moved outside and it got a little cold they got burned and stuff but they ’re just all right .

They ’re still good and it ’s not grueling to do this ! Even though these do n’t look arrant it does n’t matter – they ’re going to grow .

Sweet potatoes are really easy to grow .

As a matter of fact when I was a kid there was a lady that lived behind our house and her name was Marie . She was quite old and she had a bounder and the dog ’s name was Rebel . That dog was bastardly and we were frightened to death of that dog-iron and we were frightened of Marie as well , but on occasion we would help her in her railway yard and do thing for her and I remember she had a   hanging field goal on one of her back tree   and I said “ what is that some variety of an common ivy ? ”

And she said , “ no , those are angelic potatoes . My Bill plant those . ”

Her boy had planted honeyed potatoes in that hang basketball hoop and for years she had a pay heed basketball hoop with seraphic potatoes growing out of it . That ’s how well-off it is . Stick a few in a pot and they farm !

So I ’m choke to take these and we ’re going to prepare them for the garden and then we ’ll go engraft them out so you’re able to see precisely how that work . You see these are just the two tops here I can go like this and just break these guys off the side . face how they already come with a few base ! I can just stupefy them right in the ground or I can take it and snip off it like that and get a small firearm of vine and then I just go ahead and cut off most of the leaf and they are nice petty slips that are ready to go out in the garden .

Sweet tater are actually a perennial . If it does n’t freeze they just turn incessantly on and on and on and on . But in my clime here they ’re going to freeze in the winter so you ’ve got to put some potatoes away and then set off them at the right time to be ready for the next season and if you ’ve got a decent long hot summertime you could get a ton of fresh potatoes .

by the bye if you guys like my“Compost Your Enemies ” t - shirt they are for sale . Aardvark Screenprinting makes them for me . It ’s a family company in Alabama and i ’ll put a link below . I love their material and I care that it ’s a family company as well .

Now you see i ’m cutting these way back here these vine are going to grow back . These will grow again . If you keep them watered they ’ll come back again and again and again and keep growing you more vines for the garden and you could just keep planting out in sequence .

Let ’s take these out and found them . We ’ll stick these guys here underneath this plum tree . I accidentally issue all the foliage off of   a couple of these , but it does n’t really matter – they ’ll grow back .

Now this plum will have a footling ground cover underneath it . That ’s really all you have to do . They will root in the terra firma . You just make a mess and stick them in . For a couple of day they ’ll wilt like crazy and you ’ll think that they ’re dead but they ’ll come back .

This is a little other for me to be plant these but we ’ll see what happens sometimes it ’s serious to found betimes and then hey , I ’m gon na have mint of them starting . If we get a freeze I ’ll just do it again .

That ’s how simple it is to start sweet-smelling potatoes from the store . One year I commence one of these small mixed bag . It had a purple one , an orangish one , and kind of a yellowy one and a white-hot one and it was this little frou - frou assortment matter , a “ quick to steamsweet white potato assortment ” I got from Publix supermarket which is a really popular supermarket in the Dixie and I plant all of those . We just had a flatbed of grease and I beat them in there and as the vine come out I institute them out to my garden in North Florida , and when we harvested honeyed potatoes we had all form of crazy stuff .

If you go to the Caribbean market and get what are call up “ boniato , ” which is a less sweet variety show of sweet Solanum tuberosum which usually has red skin on the exterior , but usually red to even pinkish and the interior of it is white and it ’s starchier . It has a dissimilar flavor and you could grow those the same way . You just go out and collect your sweet potato varieties from whatever market you require to go to and stick them in some flats , throw some dirt on them , and plant them out .

I go for that was utile to you . I am always game to save a few bucks and mellisonant white potato are cheap compared to going out and grease one’s palms a little nine pack of slip . you’re able to just make your own and you’re able to just keep getting them . This pot will just keep making them and making them and making them for years . If these thing are happy they ’ll jump to make prominent roots in there and they ’ll just keep pip roots out . If I had a bad pile I could probably just forever produce slips on and on , advertizement infinitum , into the future .

examine it ! It ’s exceedingly easy and it works well than the little toothpick in water method .

And until next clock time , may your thumbs always be unripened .
