It ’s severe to believe , but 9 nine years ago this weekend , we clear off an overgrown 3 Accho field to start out Old World Garden Farms .
The date was October 15th , 2010 .
arm with only a rented 36″ wide of the mark , self - propelled sickle bar lawn mower , we take turn making passes to cut down brush , weeds and minuscule trees that loom over our heads .
At that point in our life , all we had was the dream . Along with a willingness to try , fail , and try again , and have merriment with it all .
The Dream Of A More Simple Life
All we really wanted was a distance to raise some of our own nutrient . And more importantly , to simplify life .
So what was in that dream ? Well , it start out with a big garden to grow reinvigorated tomatoes , peppers , cucumber and more . And a small Gallus gallus coop to promote a few volaille , along with a bee hive or two for refreshed beloved .
It also included a small orchard with a few few fruit trees , along with a few grape vine vines as well . After all , if we were dreaming , we might as well be able-bodied to make a few feeding bottle of homemade vino someday too !
And of course , a little b , and hopefully someday , a piddling business firm to make it our homestead .
Somehow , with a lot of blood , sweat , and more sweat – all of those dreaming and more came true . And by the way , yes , there were for sure tear too . ordinarily of course of action whenever the rake appeared ! 🙂
And in the process of it all , Old World Garden Farms was created . We call back we would take a look back at it all today with a few before and after photos that well tell the story .

Old World Garden Farm Turns 9 – A Look Back At Nine Years Of Photos
Wow ! We both forget until count at the depiction below how stripped the entering was back in the day ! We had to first bulldoze a bit of the front hill down to create the driveway . And from there , it was transplant as many plants as we could to meet it all in .
For our very first destination planetary house , we used an one-time recycled window from one of the barns we tore down . It work perfectly until a sway from the route find out it ’s way through the glass !
We had no tiller , no tools , no water and no electrical energy . But that did n’t stop us from establish our first garden in the give of 2011 . We pile up straw and supergrass , and add a second of soil on top to make our first garden .
It turned out to be a good thing we did n’t have that tiller . Because it all led to creating our first no - till , raise row garden . And that garden produced over a twosome thousand pounding of vegetable in it ’s very first yr – and theRaised Row , No - Till Gardenwas born !

It was our first “ us ” anatomical structure at Old World Garden Farms . We had installed the small crybaby coop for the chicks , but needed a place to sit and unlax after working in the garden .
And with no office or tool at the farm , we built our first pergola piece by piece at our house . And then lend it to the farm to forgather in blank space .
As you’re able to see today , it still stands proudly at the farm . Although it does now have a lot more plants and landscape around it ! We still make out to sit under it to have dinner party , or just revel a few tranquil moments at the farm .
In 2011 , we deplume two old barns down to assay to turn them into one barn at the farm . It was quite the task for two rookie builder , but somehow , and with a mint of help from friends and household , it pass .
We have since supply on two side cover patio , and put a novel plus on the back . ( Hence , all of the building date above 🙂 )
It stay the center of action for nearly all of our events at the farm . And , it will always have a particular place in our heart .
In 2016 , we start construction on the final pipe dream at the farm , to build our 1054 square substructure simple planetary house . With the incredible help ofWeaver Barns , who framed the entire outside , the house quickly take condition .
We spent the remainder of the summer installing shiplap , house painting , stain and finishing the Department of the Interior . And in October , we finally moved to the farm for commodity !
One of the things we have learned most in 9 years is to never dread failure . And to keep crop until you get it correct . And that has always been the typesetter’s case with all of our “ particular ” project at the farm .
