Giant coneflower art in garden
Make a Giant Garden Art Coneflower
I have been want to make this projection for years . Years ago , I saw a giant ( gorgeous ) coneflower bird feeder in a shop . It was way over my budget ( or spending conscience ) , but , it left me determined , as a non - welder , to figure out a way to make something simple but similar .
This one by no mean value lives up to the one I saw , but I remember it ’s really sweet in the garden , act as the Mama of the Coneflowers ( I have a lot of them ) .
I ’ll take the air you through how I made this one and offer substitute ideas for materials and assembly .

rather of shinny to find materials like mine , I promote you to work with what you find and use your creative Spidey mother wit . You might just make out up with something you like better !
The most authoritative part is to make trusted your pans fit together nicely , countenance some redundant room for the tops of the metal flower petals . The snug paroxysm is the key to it all holding together in the garden .
Coneflowers come in gobs of colors . I made the classic , old - way coneflower , but there ’s no reason you could n’t either leave the metal plain or paint everything in other colour .

Unlike a welded garden art efflorescence , this project is not going to last rafts of years . The coneflower shown here is fairly secure but do take note it is simply holding in place because the top cake pan fit snugly over the upside - down pie plate . You ’ll see what I mean in the steps ( below ) .
Before you make up one’s mind on your pieces , quiz them out . The metallic element bloom petal will call for to match in between the Pan where they fall in , so make certain there ’s a little extra room for this .
If you ’re looking for a task that can stand up to wild winds , or grandchildren and ducky knocking it about , this is not for you . Mine is subject to heavy rains and some wind , and birds landing on it , and it does amercement but it ’s not a heavy tariff art art object .

Spray paint the petals(both sides ) in the desired color . I used a light pink alloy spray paint and then add sorry pinkish acrylic craft paint with a dry brushing . You might require a more blended look . I desire the contrast color .

Paint the pie and cake goat god orange with metal nebuliser paint . Only the lip of the Proto-Indo European plate will show , so that ’s the only part you take to add colour to .

To secure the petal to the flower , use a bridge player punch to produce a hole near the top of each flower petal .

Next , sit the Proto-Indo European denture on something to hold it about 18″ off the table , and aim a ring of conducting wire around the dental plate , above the mouth . Do n’t correspond it tightly as you require elbow room to tuck in the metal flower petals .

Fold over the top 1/2″ of each bloom petal and plug a 2nd hole that lines up with the first one . Sit the fold tops over the wire and secure in place with memorial tablet fasteners .

If you are concerned about things flapping around ( I ’m not ) , you could run a thick bead of silicone sealant around the wire to help hold it in shoes with the Proto-Indo European plate .
To tie the coneflower to a stalk , there are a few option . I drilled a hole through the heart of the Proto-Indo European home , and used a wood screw , securing it to the 2×2 Sir Henry Joseph Wood post .
My metal cake pan ( with the methamphetamine hydrochloride gems ) jibe snugly over the spinning top of the prime flower petal ( where the brass fasteners are ) and did not take further reinforcements . Again , AFTER batten the pie denture to the wood stake , you could append another thickset bead of silicone sealant around the summit of the flower flower petal / Proto-Indo European plate wire and then secure the cake cooking pan in place .

Here ’s the ruined coneflower . I retrieve it looks quite grand in the garden .
