In a Vase on Monday. In the Red.
Many follower of Cathy ’s meme‘In a Vase on Monday’have become so enthusiastic about it that they have make turn off - bloom beds . I have got caught up in it too and I have turned over one of my raised vegetable layer to yearbook for cut flowers this year .
I always grow a few creation and the one I chose this year is a gloriously rich deep red - red , stripey one called ‘ Velouette ’ .
Cosmos bipinnatus‘Velouette ’

Cosmos bipinnatus‘Velouette’
It is a perfect mates for the satiny magenta- cherry-red blossom ofMalope trifida‘Vulcan ’ .

I like the pointy apple unripened bud too .

The cherry flowers look good in my black puritanical lamentation vase . The Victorians were addicted to mourning and all the sepulchral obstruction that went with it . I like bootleg though and it sets off these drab ruby flowers perfectly .
It is amazing the variety of shades of colour that come under the word ruddy . I do n’t opine ‘ Vulcan ’ is a ripe name for the Malope trifida . Vulcan was the Roman Fire God and I think the name should be reserved for torrid red flower like thisCrocosmia‘Hellfire ’ . This one is better than ‘ Lucifer ’ as it has no trace of yellow in it and is redder than red .

Now that ’s the kind of red I think is appropriate for a Fire God .
Thinking about red flower made me go out foraging in the rain for a few true red efflorescence in the garden . And so here is the small vase of hot reds to cheer up a dismal day . The dahlia is ‘ Tam Tam ’ and I used dill flower head .

Once the pelting came on hard I had to move indoors and I discard most of the dill weed and add a few dark heuchara leaves and some fluffyPennisetum villosumgrass caput for a sultry look .
I used one or two blooms from my ‘ Bishop of Llandaff ’ seedlings for different specter of red ink .
I sleep with the venose flowers ofAbutilon‘Nabob ’ .

The Nasturtiums or ‘ Nasty urchin ’ as I think they were telephone when I was a child , are ‘ inglorious Velvet’ . I have used a redPenstemon ‘ King George ’ .
I also used a few sprig ofSalvia‘Royal Bumble ’ .
All these reds have made me long for a bit more belated summertime red . In my last garden , inspire by the red garden at Hidcote , I created a ruddy margin . I have n’t sustain so much space here , but still I think I need to regain somewhere to commit to a few more floral fireworks .

In my next post , now I am all fired up , I will research the ruddy theme a bit more . In the meantime thanks to adorable Cathy atRamblinginthegardenfor getting us all to put something ‘ In a Vase on Monday ’

Both are fabulous vessel and reddish is such a great flower color ! Your arrangements attractively keep the warmth of summer ! We seldom get rainwater from July through September or October so the rain glistening on your flowers is a joy .
Oh my , I ’m add that cosmos to my tilt . A dismal and sultry solicitation in your vases , the Victorians would approve . I did not know they move as far as mourning vases , though .
You have a adorable range of Red in your garden already . ‘ Velouette ’ may be the pretty cosmos I ’ve ever seen . It ’s also one I ’ve never see offer for sales agreement , in plant or seed , here ( although I did just find the seeds for sale by ring armor order ) . Despite my admiration for the lovely creation , my dearie of your institution is the second one sport the dahlias and the heuchera leaves . I did some foraging for companions for blood-red blooms myself this week – heuchera would have been a blessing but the plants fry the minute summer make it here so I ’ve make up on them .

Cathy has have the words out of my oral fissure 🙂 I do n’t return seeing ‘ Vellouette ’ in any catalog so am off forthwith to do some enquiry like a shot whilst it ’s reinvigorated in my mind . I arise ‘ Rubenza ’ this yr but remain unconvinced .
