In a Vase on Monday. Mum’s the Word.
November seems more like October this class with the glorious fall colours carry on well into what is usually a dismal month . I always used to dislike this low time of the twelvemonth in the garden , but that was before I observe hardy chrysanthemums . They start blossom in September but I seek out the later - flowering ones which start up in October and acquit on into November . They light up the garden in rainbow colours , but they are also long go in a vase . I still have dahlias in bloom but most years I rely on chrysanthemum for vibrant late colour .
I set them off with a few plume of various grasses . This rareChrysanthemum‘Buxton Ruby ’ is the darkest one I have . It has sprays of frilly petty flower with a yellow daisy centre .
fall colours are here with the apricot , orange and yellow . Chrysanthemum‘Picasso ’ is rather rare . It is to the full double with masses of little apricot flower . It makes quite a heavyset industrial plant .

As well as oranges and bronze I have quite a few jaundiced chrysanthemum , the one I used here isChrysanthemum ‘ bungalow Lemon ’ . It is still hold up strong although the asters in the pic which I take a few weeks ago are over now . So the clump no longer looks like a fried ball , cheery side up .
The vivacious bronze one in the centre is perhaps my favorite chrysanthemum of all . It is the peerlessChrysanthemum‘Chelsea Physic Garden ’ which has double bloom with golden lights on the backs of the petals . It lasts late into the twelvemonth and I sometimes pick it on Christmas Day .
I have popped a few pinks in the vase ; I in all likelihood would n’t mingle these colouring material in summertime but at this time of the year I am happy to have a kaleidoscope of clashing colours . One of my favorite pinks has quilled pink flowers and was discovered in a garden here in Suffolk . It is called ‘ Mavis Smith ’ and micturate very vigourous plant .

I have just one lily-white chrysanthemum and it has lovely raggy white double flowers . It is visit ‘ Edelweiss ’ . It really lights up the vase .
For the dining table I made a little arrangement in a little Danish vase which I am rather fond of .
I used some sprigs ofMahonia x media‘Charity ’ which always flower in November and various salvias which are still lingering

Chrysanthemum‘Marion ’ has a endearing , semi - double coppery - orange flower with a yellow ring lash out the centre
The pink three-fold one in the above photo is a Jaapanese chrysanthemum call ‘ Kei Kyo ’ . It looks lovely raise with blueSalvia uliginosaannd the violent butterfy flower of the China Rose ‘ Bengal Beauty ’ which is in bloom for calendar month on remainder .
If I still have n’t persuade you to test growing chrysanthemum to sate up your October and November vases , then here are a few more .

Many thanks to Cathy atRambling in the Gardenfor encouraging us to go out on a blue day looking for flowers to putIn a Vase on Monday .

You have quite a Chrysanthemum ingathering ! I love ‘ Picasso ’ , ‘ Marion ’ and ‘ Chelsea Physic Garden ’ . I do n’t care much for Chrysanthemum foliage and , in my clime , I prefer evergreen plant plants but I would definitely farm mums as yearbook ( or perchance pots that could be tuck away during their off season ) if more interesting varieties were available here . However , our garden center field generally offer pitiful and very ordinary plant this prison term of year . I tripped across a red and yellow variety shout ‘ Rainbow Circus ’ this twelvemonth , though , and it landed in a good deal formerly occupied by a Dahlia pinnata .
Beautiful vase , beautiful placement , and beautiful bloom . My mums are just done , but they are so cheery while they last , are n’t they ? 🙂
You have some absolute beauties in your vase Chloris . I ’ve not grown any chrysanthemums since my allotment day so must have a tornado at them again in the garden . The spider varieties look most tempting . Although I ’m not cracking on the smell of their foliage it seems to deter molluscs which is most suitable DoS of affairs 😀
