In a Vase on Monday. The Wars of the Roses.
Saturday , 1st August was Yorkshire Day and as I was born in God ’s Own County , I thought I should do a vase of snowy rose to celebrate the date . As Yorkshire Day was only thought of in 1975 , you would opine that they would have the sense to choose a appointment whenRosa albais likely to be in blush . I had to search all over the garden to find a white rose wine which was still flowering . All I plant was oneRosa hugoniswhich is early anthesis but has another half - hearted effort to produce a few scattered blooms in August . After almost pay up , I observe a trivial sprayer of the Hybrid MuskRosa‘Prosperity ’ . So those are my White Rose of Yorkshire offerings .
Joining the roses I haveSolanum crispum‘Glasnevin ’ and the whiteSolanum jasminoides .

I used a span of white Sweet Peas which are delicately touch with lilac and a individual flower ofCatanache caerulawhich is very pretty and easy from seed .

I used a brace of different genus Eryngium , they are so long survive in piss , and I put in some feathery grassPennisetum villosum . The green Alexander Graham Bell - similar bloom on the right isNicotiana langsdorfiiwhich I love as it is so dainty .

In the pastime of fairness , I suppose I should do a vase using the Red Rose of Lancashire . After all the Pianist comes from Lancashire and it ’s not his fault . His rose is much showy but it has no bouquet . I did n’t embed it , but I consider it is aFloribundaRosa‘Frensham ’ . I do n’t interpret why anyone would plant a rose without fragrance . As there was no scent , I used some Honeysuckle , Lonicera periclymenum‘Serotina ’ and some purple Sweet Peas . I used some purple foliage fromCotinus coggyria‘Notcutt ’s variety show ’ and some bronze Fennel , Foeniculum vulgare‘Purpureum ’ . I also used someScabiosa atropurpurea‘Ace of Spades ’ as it is such a rich , dark color .
So there we have it the Wars of the Roses , 500 years on . On another post I might give you my Grandmother ’s recipe for Parkin , which is 2d to none . But in the meantime you may enjoy Hale and Pace and their Yorkshire Airlines sketch on youtube . I ca n’t seem to put the link on here , never having done this kind of thing before , but it is soft to find .

give thanks you , Cathy , atramblinginthegarden , for inspiring us all to put some prime in a Vase on Monday .

Is n’t that the way it is … a prime symbolise a day and its not in bloom . Beautiful mixture in the first vase with the common , albumen and blue - purples . And the second rose vase such a full-bodied mix with those coast banksia , sweet peas and fennel .
Both vases are beautiful , although the blank and downcast premix is my favorite . I watched the Yorkshire Airlines video – hilarious !
Great vas based on a creative conception ! Thanks for share-out , Chloris !

Very courteous . You do a capital task with all the element – the fillers , the focal percentage point , and the accent element . Lovely !
Two vases of equal ‘ strength ’ , best for both sides to concord to ‘ peace of mind ’ ! I see the raging white rose growing in the dune in Northumberland in the first place this year for the first clip . Would love you to share your Mum ’s Parkin recipe .
Fabulous vas both Chloris although I ’m drawn to the white rise arrangement . I ’m married to a Lancashire lad too 🙂
