A collection of beautiful vignettes
Today we ’re off to Raleigh , North Carolina , to chew the fat with Cynthia Strickland .
In the past class I have captured some uncommon oroutstanding plantsand combinations with my camera while visiting public garden or act in my horticulture quad . I trust you may get some intake or enjoyment from these photographs too .
The most vibrant and unforgettable combining of plants let in thisLycoris radiata(Zones 6–10 ) , orred spider lily . This grouping was at a historic home in zone 7b and 8a .

A strike pastel conjugation of the cypress(Cupressus arizonicavar.arizonica , Zones 7–9 ) with pinkish ‘ Mahogany Snow ’ hellebore(Helleborus‘Mahogany Snow ’ , Zones 5–8 ) was in an outdoor container in January at theBotanical Gardens in Asheville , North Carolina .
At another historical abode , I was surprised and delighted to see a healthy Christmas cactus(Schlumbergera , tropical ) originate indoors beside a vigorous fern in a classic and substantial urn in a dimly lit room .
I was drag to the brooding bonsai and the reflection of the sky at this home during the wintertime in Zone 6b .

As a gardener , sometimes I relish check an ethereal mass of a single species . This energetic orangeness cosmos(Cosmossulphureus , annual ) at the base of an outbuilding looks good even toward the end of summertime .
At home , I get originative in several ways . My windowsill - grown prickly-seeded spinach “ microgreens ” were tender and toothsome , just not very filling .
Using large eggshell sherd as a dirt topper over sedum bud is a nice reminder of misstep to the beach .

amber pine conoid and a metallic - and - blue-green ceramic pot dress up aJuniperusconferta‘Blue Pacific ’ ( zone 6–9 ) for a festive vignette .
It was fun to use this gnome as a focal point in this pigeonholing of mainlyshade - loving plant life . It was a very good year forbegonias , and with frequent tearing , generous refinement , and some top set with well - rotted manure , this pinkish begonia variety ( unsung ) wave during the red-hot and humid summer and well into gloaming in Zone 7b . Newsedumcuttings are growing in a disc . I used a little potting mix and a lot of sand .
