Diverse plantings for season-long interest

Today James Dillon , a horticulturalist and landscape designer in Kearneysville , West Virginia , is sharing his beautiful front walkway .

I planted this garden in 2014 . I use a lot of different plants for maximize the season of pursuit and ecological welfare . Plants bloom in the garden from early spring until late fall . basis covers like gold star(Chrysogonumvirginianum , Zones 5–9 ) and ‘ Karmina ’ geranium(Geranium× cantabrigiense‘Karimina ’ , zone 5–8 ) cover areas with their low evergreen plant leafage and bloom in May - June . annual such asMexican sunflower(Tithonia rotundifolia),tall verbena(Verbena bonariensis),andzinnia(Zinnia elegans)are sown for added summer color . The monarch butterflies are frequent visitor , although last class we did n’t have as many as usual . Mums remain brave in the desiccant area under the eves near the household foundation .

River stones along the paseo minimize erosion from the rainwater runoff and extend it . Taller plant life are gift way to straggle into the river Harlan Stone belt rather than blocking the walkway . The river stone areas also supply space to add pieces of driftwood , shell , and interesting rocks .

The garden is rich gullible on a wet day .

Stormwater is n’t allowed to just run off . A rainwater chain hold body of water into a dry well , watering a ‘ Red Fox’katsuraand black tupelo tree . The other downspout is conduct toward the interference fringe tree .
