Opuntia monacanthavar.variegatais a shrubby or Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree - like cactus that can grow up to 20 feet ( 6 MB ) tall . The base are divided into oblong to obovate segments , measuring up to 12 inches ( 30 cm ) tenacious and up to 5 inches ( 12.5 curium ) wide . They are green with irregular marking in white , cream , yellow , gullible , and sometimes pink . The browned and grayish spines can reach up to 1.6 column inch ( 4 cm ) in length .
The flowers are yellow-bellied to deep orange - brown , with reddish outer perianth segments , and can valuate up to 3 inch ( 4.5 cm ) recollective and 4 inches ( 10 cm ) in diameter .

Though the declamatory form of species within theOpuntiagenus means different , Prickly Pears may need slightly different care . All are desert cacti that need pile of sun , lighter , and very little water . So , if you live in a red-hot , arid orbit , these plants can by and large be planted outside , left alone , and enjoyed .
These cacti will grow just fine in a garden but can also be grown in pots . To repot , ensure the soil is dry , remove the pot , and rap away the onetime land . After treating any cuts with fungicide , range the cactus in a novel pot and backfill it withpotting soil . As with a new clipping , ensure not to water a newly repotting Prickly Pear briefly to avoid rotting its roots .

Opuntiacan propagate either by cuttings or by seed . To propagate by cuttings , sever pads from a plant and allow them dry out to heal the wounds . Then , place the plants in wry grime and refrain from watering them until they begin to grow to avoid moulder them .
