During the peak of summer this New England garden is looking anything but tired
Hey GPODers ! Today we ’re back in the peak - filled garden of Heidi Weirether . We first see her garden a small originally on in the summer ( you contain check out that post here : Heidi ’s colored Garden in Fairfield County ) and it ’s unbelievable to see how much has changed in a calendar month ’s time ! As with much of the northeast this yr , Heidi is have incredible hydrangea blooms — but that is just the tip of the flowered iceberg in her sensory garden :
Looks like it ’s a banner year for all of Heidi ’s blossom . We ’re flummox the first peaks of beautiful blue hydrangeas ( love the combination of mophead and lacecap ) , but the shasta daisies ( Leucanthemum×superbum , Zones 5–9 ) are giving them a existent run for their money .
Flowers for as far as the eye can see ! The direction Heidi massed these plants at unlike heights allows you to see the various layer of color , but I ’m also transfixed by the mode these bed front like rolling wafture of blossom crash against the side of her garden shed .

In Heidi ’s earlier entry we saw a sprinkling of oriental poppy bloom ( Papaver orientale , Zones 3–7 ) sharing the phase with spire of foxglove and pops of pinkish paeony , but here some breadseed poppy ( genus Papaver somniferum , annual ) are doing all the heavy lifting . Though this is light body of work for a flora in so many gorgeous colors and with a second - show in the signifier of their unbelievable seed heads .
While Heidi ’s forte is definitely flowers , she does n’t skimp on the rattling foliation . This longsighted border feature just about every colouration in the rainbow , but it ’s all anchor to a base of bluff leaf from two unbelievable ligularias . The non-white colouring ofBritt - Marie Crawford(Ligularia dentata‘Britt - Marie Crawford ’ , Zones 4–9 ) provides a decent demarcation while ‘ Bottle Rocket ’ ( Ligulariax ‘ Bottle Rocket ’ , Zones 4–9 ) adds exciting grain with its serrated leaves .
Yet another hydrangea I ’ve seen this yr perfectly spread over in the biggest blooms . With its pack of colors all descend from one plant , I ’m take on this is the always telling L.A. Dreamin ’ bigleaf ( Hydrangea macrophylla‘Lindsey Anne ’ , Zones 5–10 ) . And what can be more classic than placing it behind a smart white picket fencing ? It ’s the pure hardscape pairing for a shrub sporting so many colors .

Where flowers burst , pollinator are sure to follow . This promising bee balm appears to have been a sports fan favorite with a hummingbird and swallowtail butterfly both paying a visit . What an incredible moment to catch , Heidi !
eventually , an adorable helper give way some bight pink impatiens a much - needed drink during the red-hot July day we ’ve been experiencing in Connecticut . A true mini nurseryman in the devising !
Thanks for sharing your incredible garden with us again , Heidi ! It ’s such a treat to see what you have blooming , and I hope we get to see your space continue to transform through the seasons .
