SixOnSaturday

It was beautiful last weekend , cold , crisp , clear naughty , bright , just what you require from a winter ’s day . I got some rosaceous pruning done , cut back some clematis while I was at it . I also sowed some seeds , any semblage of self - control melt when my HPS seed order founder temptingly onto the wuss . This weekend look less than perfect , in equivalence . soft , foggy , dampish , gloomy , grey being the words that outflow to mind . No doubt I ’ll puff myself into the garden anyway . But first , time for Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a flower , fresh growth , a job to do , wildlife , chaos , order , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this hebdomad …

1 – Cyclamen will . The flowers are long gone , and anyway , while they are pretty enough they are not all that . The leaf are rather handsome though , I think . This little bunch has broadcast quite a fate since I plant the initial plant some eld ago .

2 – Lupin , impudent growth . I think this is one I grew from seed last twelvemonth , plausibly from Fred in France . squeamish to see it making a return visit , poking its confident picayune face up through the mulch . No preindication of Mr Slug . So far .

3 – Hellebore ‘ Pink Lady ’ . I bought her ladyship and a few of her friends at Wisley last year , probably in the same giddy industrial plant shop frenzy as last week ’s clematis . I commonly steer decipherable of the hellebores as they ordinarily seem very expensive for what they are . These were one-half cost so I bought some . Of course I did ! She is a rather louche , droopy lady . Morose , even . Very fairly underneath the underskirt , as it very much were .

4 – germ passel , caboodle of ’em . Last weekend I receive my HPS seed purchase order , 30 little packets plus one of mixed , mystery seeds . I sowed all the hardy perennials among the 30 . Some are in the het up bench , some in the dusty skeletal system , and this half XII are on an unheated workbench in the nursery . I hope the hakonechloa macra germinates , I ’d like to have a couple more of those .

5 – genus Allium christophii , emerging . I think I have 50 - odd of these squirrel away in the glasshouse , which in hindsight seems undue . I wish them though , very large argent purple point , a garden pyrotechnic , turning into imposingly structural skeletal seminal fluid heads . I shall plant them out once the perennials in the garden depart to show themselves a bit more , I ’ll be able to see the gaps . Or , more likely , when I need the quad in the nursery .

6 – Cosmos seeds , ‘ Apricot Lemonade ’ . I saw these in the Special Plants catalogue and went a little week at the knee . Such an unusual colour . I noticed after I invite the packet in the billet that they are on the short side for a cosmos . I will let them off if they turn out anything like the word picture ( credit : RHS website )
