I am in a tizz this week , preparing and labelling plants to take to the HPS Plant Fair today . I ’ve to make a cake too ! I shall be there all 24-hour interval , heroically resisting the itch to purchase lovely industrial plant . Heroically , I say . Resisting , oh yes . credibly . A bit . no matter , it is time for Six on Saturday – six matter , in the garden , on a saturday . Could be anything ! A plant , a blossom , a pest , a occupation to do , wildlife , a cock , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this week .

1 . Blauwschokker pea plant flower – aside from the marvelous name , this pea plant has a lot going for it . First fourth dimension I ’ve grown it , but the pod are purple , the peas are calcium oxide dark-green , and the flowers are purple too . What ’s not to wish ? It ’s in the veggie plot , but could be farm in the main garden too , I think .

2 . Pyrocanthus flower – another bargain leverage I was unable to resist . Bought as a very small plant , for £ 1 I think , it has spent the much of the last 9 months or so in a 1L mickle . I plant it out a month or two back and it has answer with some vigour . I plan to train it against the wall .

3 . Clematis ‘ Rebecca ’ . Outraged , but not surprised , to see that the first clematis blossom to emerge in the garden has already been nibbled . It ’s only been there for a few days . I surmise earwigs live in this planter , they are partial to a clematis flower , I gain . I involve to rig up a maw for them , or else go on patrol at night when they are actively nibble .

4 – Poppy heads – I grew a few poppy from seed last year , they did nothing . This year , they are grow powerfully and now flowering . I ’m grow a few unlike poppy from seed this year too , violet this sentence . Future maven of Six on Saturday .

5 – Chelsea chopper . A job to do this weekend , so identify because the RHS Chelsea Flower Show happens around the clock time this job is due . The intention of the nominal ‘ chop ’ is to stay flowering on those plants choose for behead . I ’m move to do this for a few clumps of recurrent plant . I ’ll pick a few from the front of each clump and give them a good haircut . This has two effects , check the constitution of blossom head , but also stimulating more shoot to get , at long last giving more flowers . Because I ’m not rationalise back all the plant life in a establish clump , the overall effect is that the flowering period for the plant pigeonholing is extended . 6 – First rose flush of 2018 – the first of many , I hope . Over the last year I have planted a dozen or so climbing rose , most bought , some grown from cutting . This flower is from a cutting of R.’Danse de feu ’ , taken 18 month ago . It is flowering earlier than its parent plant , perhaps because it is in the gay border rather than the shaded . This particular flower would not acquire any dirty money , it looks a picayune bedraggled in place .
