Adapting to a new climate
Welcome to Elizabeth Kring ’s garden in Plano , Texas .
After spending my entire horticulture life in California , where virtually anything will turn , we were transplant to Texas , where horticulture is a challenge . The first yr , I plant a Dominicus garden in the side M that was a concluded disaster . I draw a blank that warmth and sun are n’t the same matter and that the two crepe myrtle trees would leaf out and contrive important refinement . And the top of the garden , which should be in the sun , in reality gets wraith in the afternoon from the fencing . So I start out all over and now have a transitional garden from shade to mostly Dominicus but not enough sun to successfully develop veg , even though I continue to try tomatoes .
Notice the channel of spectre from the fence . The tomatoes are in jackpot , as we have squirrels and bunny rabbit who decimated my first yr ’s effort at husbandry .

Japanese tassel ferns(Polystichumpolyblepharum , Zones 5–8 ) , heuchera , hellebore(Helleborusorientalis , Zones 4–9 ) , sasanqua camellia(Camelliasasanqua , Zones 7–9 ) , and Solomon ’s seal(Polygonatumsp . ) all seem to expand in the tone of the crape myrtles(Lagerstroemiaindica , Zones 7–10 ) . The homemade fountain from a duet of pots find at an estate sale draw in a cardinal family every year .
A closed book clematis I grasp up from under some bushes and gave a trellis . Apparently it was n’t happy and decided to bring white-hot to its repertory .
St. John ’s wort(Hypericumsp . ) has the most beautiful yellow flowers in leaping . The priming cover is veronica Georgia blue(Veronica peduncularis‘Georgia Blue ’ , Zones 6–9 ) and come up back every saltation with cobalt gamey flowers . Somebody had to “ try ” theHosta‘Guacamole ’ .

Even without full Sunday , the puritanic fortune hyssop(Agastache‘Blue Fortune ’ , Zones 4–10 ) come back and should be shroud in bee afterward this month when they bloom . This was the first year for Pow Wow echinacea(Echinaceapurpurea‘PowWow Wild Berry ’ , Zones 4–9 ) andScabiosa‘Butterfly Blue ’ ( geographical zone 5–9 ) .
The sundial is almost useless , but it reminds me of my first yr and how fortunate I am to have a shade garden in which to farm hellebores .
